fffc are doing a fic challenge for May and I'm participating. Once they're all written, they'll get collected and posted to fffc, but I'll be posting them sporadically here. This is the first three.

Notes/Warnings: My headcanon is that Benton and the Brig are at it like knives from circa five minutes after the end of The Invasion till the sad death of the Brig in The Wedding of River Song; this is a large part of the reason Fiona leaves him, taking tiny Kate with her. At some point between The Android Invasion and Battlefield, "John" Benton loses the AMAB name and reveals the Doris he always was inside; their love remains strong. Day 1 Prompt: "never again"

"He told me you nearly died; you're supposed to have retired; PLEASE let Winifred take over now, stay here with me and we can do the garden..." Doris's eyes were like saucers and he could do nothing other than give a curt nod.

Day 2 Prompt: "forever and a day"

He'd come home from Geneva and could hear Benton singing along to "If You Knew" by Nina Simone as he softly closed the door; he knew.

Day 3 Prompt: "Out of Time"

Doris luxuriated in the warmth of him spooning her back (and snoring lightly) and sighed contentedly; it was kind of the Doctor to take the two of them completely outside the spacetime continuum for a few days, but they'd have to go home today.
